There are two methods to calibrate the barometric altimeter component of your Bad Elf GPS: The first is by a known altitude, and the second is by a known pressure.


Both methods will begin the same with these 4 steps:


1. Turn on your Bad Elf GPS receiver by pressing the top button for 3 seconds.

2. Tap the middle button on the Elf once to bring it to the bluetooth screen, and then again in order to bring it to the barometer screen. 

3. Press and hold the middle button to bring up the CALIBRATE BAROMETER screen

4. You will now see two options:

< BY ALTITUDE

< BY PRESSURE 

From here, proceed to Section A for calibration by altitude, or Section B for calibration by pressure.


Section A: Calibrate by Known Altitude

5a. Press the middle button of the Elf to select < BY ALTITUDE.

6a. If you have a GPS lock, it will give the option press the middle button of the Elf to calibrate using < CURRENT GPS. Alternatively, press the bottom button on the Elf to select < MANUAL ENTRY. From this point, we're gong to continue through the < MANUAL ENTRY option. Tap the bottom button on your Elf to select this.

7a. To change this to a known altitude, use the middle button to increase the number, and the bottom button to decrease the number. 

8a. When the number on screen matches your known altitude, press the top button to confirm this number and then press the bottom button, < YES, to confirm. 

9a. The barometer is now calibrated, based on your known altitude!

Section B: Calibrate by Known Pressure

5b. Press the bottom button to select < BY PRESSURE.

6b. Again, you'll be presented with two options for calibrating:

< ALTIMETER SETTING or 

< SEA LEVEL

7b. By selecting < ALTIMETER SETTING, you will be able to set the the pressure from a known pressure. The default unit for < ALTIMETER SETTING is inHG. For < SEA LEVEL, the default value is millibars (mb). These units can be changed through the Bad Elf GPS App, or through our Online Settings Editor.

8b. To change this to a known pressure, use the middle button to increase the number, and the bottom button to decrease the number. 

9b. When the number on screen matches your known pressure, press the top button to confirm this number, and then press the bottom button, < YES, to confirm. 

10b. The barometer is now calibrated, based on your known pressure!
